Covenant Presbyterian has heritage tunes
A Scottish Heritage Celebration Concert will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 230 E. Jefferson St.
The concert will feature vocal music by Leanne Heaton of Butler Township as well as Butler bagpiper Lars Morrison.
Selections by Heaton will be taken from “Vocal Melodies of Scotland,” printed in the time of Queen Victoria.
Included will be some familiar tunes such as “Ye Banks and Braes” and “Logan Water” as well as less well-known songs such as “The Flowers of the Forest” and “Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie.”
Morrison will play before the concert, during intermission and after the concert. He will perform on the great highland bagpipes, recorder and other instruments.
The concert will be performed in costume and will be interspersed with “wee bits o' Scottish history.”Refreshments after the show also will be Scottish-themed.Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to help with expenses.
