Moving on Impulse SRU dance majors show their talents
BUTLER TWP — Slippery Rock University dance majors are the stars of a 10-minute dance film that will be shown, along with performances of student choreography, when SRU Dance Theatre presents “Moving.On.Impulse” at 2 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Succop Theater at Butler County Community College.
The program will debut the film “Plow Plant Reap” and present 11 modern jazz, solo and ensemble performances created by dance majors.
Marti Renzi, an experimental filmmaker who specializes in choreography for the camera, filmed the movie in September near campus.
Jennifer Keller SRU professor of dance, shot the footage as cinematographer.
Under Renzi’s direction, Keller and 12 students spent two days on a farm shooting footage that Renzi would eventually edit into the completed film.
Renzi said the scenery worked well for her abstract celebration of a community of women.
Tickets are $12 for the public and $8 for SRU students, senior citizens and children. Tickets are available at the Smith Student Center Information Desk at the university. Call 724-738-4926 for more information.
