The latest installment appears below.———Bowling keeps many Butler County residents busy between August and May, when leagues are active on local lanes. January begins the second half of the season, with bowling shoes ready for the 43 leagues at Family Bowlaway.According to employee Amanda Switzer, who passes out the shoes, they range from toddler size 6 to women's 19Z\x and mens 18. A lone pair of size 22s is stashed in the office, but rarely gets used.Here are some other facts Switzer shares about the bowling shoes:

QUESTION: Do any superstitious bowlers request a certain pair?ANSWER: We do have a lady that asks for “a lucky pair” of shoes, but not a certain pair. There are kids that ask for the shoes with flames on them, because they're newer.

QUESTION: How many customers bowl in their own shoes?ANSWER: I want to say 90 percent of the league bowlers — maybe 20 percent of the open bowlers.

QUESTION: Having handled so many of them, would you wear rented bowling shoes?ANSWER: I do. Knowing that we disinfect them, it doesn't bother me. We have a disinfectant spray. We spray it several times in the shoe.

QUESTION: How often are bowling shoes stolen?ANSWER: Honestly, maybe 10 pairs a year, because nobody wants these shoes. People have walked out with them not realizing they have the bowling shoes on.

QUESTION: Do you find the shoes attractive.ANSWER: No! Not at all!
