PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh is about to make it a whole cheaper and easier to bring home birds and bees.

The city’s planning department is proposing to simplify the process for obtaining permits for chickens and other animals.

Under the change, owners of at least 2,000 square feet can pay $74 and receive a permit in one day that allows them to own up to five chickens or ducks, or two dehorned miniature goats, as well as two beehives.

Roosters aren’t allowed.

For each additional 1,000 square feet, residents can own an additional chicken or duck.
