Volunteering is especially important in your community, so why not help.

Hi, I’m an active volunteer in my community and I want you to be, too. It is so much fun, and it’s a great feeling when you know how good it feels to help others feel good.

Butler County has a lot of volunteering opportunities. And for those who don’t know, volunteering is work that you do at your own expense and on your own time.

Opportunities are everywhere for volunteering! Maybe at a local fundraiser, church, or even someone in your neighborhood needs a little help.

I have volunteered myself for many things. Some places that I volunteer at are: my local church, The Lighthouse, the Butler Humane Society, and also I volunteer to help or support with fundraisers at my school.

In the past school year we have done “Hats for Heroes” to help raise awareness for breast cancer, and “Pasta for Pennies” to help with families of patients that have Leukemia and Lymphoma disease. You can volunteer to help with these fundraisers or any other fundraiser. If you’ve given up any of your time to help others is called volunteering in my book!

The Lighthouse is a great place found in Butler. I volunteer there when I can. People call in for furniture, food, car repairs and help. The Lighthouse will take any help they can get. The Lighthouse has a food bank that people donate food to. Even donating food is a source of volunteering. You volunteered to give some of your food to someone in need. It’s great volunteering there because you know when you’re there that someone in need is being helped.

That’s right, even your local church needs volunteers!Whether it be what I do a lot, babysit on Sunday mornings, or volunteer to help with their fundraisers or make something for the mission trips that they go on. Like make safety kits, baby blankets, or give a bag of clothes or toys to the church for the needy children. Anything will help.So volunteer when you can, like I said, just giving your time up to do something for others is considered volunteering. So go out into your community and make a difference!Hannah Clifford is a seventh grade student at Mars Middle School.
