Nearhoof trey lifts Mars over SV, 60-58
Mars senior guard Owen Nearhoof drained a 3-pointer at the final buzzer, lifting the Planets’ boys basketball team to a 60-58 victory over Seneca Valley in the championship game of the Scott Lang Memorial Tournament Saturday evening at Mars High School.
Nearhoof ended the game with 30 points after scoring 17 in Friday’s victory over Shady Side Academy.
“To have a game like that against a team like Seneca, he was outstanding,” said Mars coach Rob Carmody of his team captain.
Mars sophomore John Castello, who scored 27 points in Friday’s game, was in foul trouble for much of the night against the Raiders.
“We had to fight and claw just to stay in the game,” said Carmody. “It’s a tribute to our kids. This was a great way to start the season.”
