The Montessori Preschool of Meridian Area celebrates National Montessori Education Week every year during the last week of February. One of the activities it has done is to give donations to the St. Vincent DePaul Society and its food bank.

Every year the 3 and 4 year olds learn about Dr. Maria Montessori’s love of children. “Maria Montessori took poor children and taught them many things.” This is one of the ways she showed her love for children.

To honor her memory, the children choose one of their favorite toys that they have outgrown, and a favorite piece of clothing to give away to a child who might be in need. Of course, the parents are involved.

These families over the years have given more than 2,000 pounds of food, and bags and bags of toys and clothing. These children volunteer to give up something that belongs to them to make someone less fortunate happy.
