SRU soccer splits 1-0 games with Shippensburg
The shots were plentiful. The goals were not.
Slippery Rock University's women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 overtime loss Wednesday to visiting Shippensburg despite out-shooting the Red Raiders, 15-6.
Shippensburg goalie Meredith Yakscoe-Markle, a three-time All-PSAC selection, turned away several point-blank shots on goal.
A header by Sandy Wasniewski in the sixth minute of overtime won the game for the Red Raiders (2-4-1).
The Rock (2-2-1) travels Edinboro for a noon game Saturday.
Junior midfielder Justin Hollm converted a double assist from Nick Christy and Mars graduate Steve Perri for a 1-0 win over Shippensburg Tuesday.Rock sophomore goalie Chris Cook recorded two saves in his first collegiate start for SRU (3-3, 3-2).The Rock travels to Kutztown for a 4 p.m. Friday game.
The Slippery Rock University women's volleyball team took a 3-1 victory over Clarion University Tuesday night.Grove City High School graduate Gwen Oberlin led The Rock (10-3, 1-0) with 21 digs and Lindsay Weber added 17 kills and 16 digs.SRU will travel to Indiana (Pa.) University on Saturday.Autumn Burke had nine kills and six aces and Jasmine Mehelich added eight digs and seven aces as BC3 defeated Westmoreland CCC 30-25, 30-12 on Wednesday.That win followed a 30-11, 30-7 victory over CCAC-Boyce which Burke added nine kills and Brittany Beatty had 13 assists and 11 aces.BC3 (13-3, 7-0) will travel to Garrett County CC for a 6 p.m. match Friday.
