HARRISBURG — Two Republican-written bills to provide short-term funding during Pennsylvania’s nearly 3-month-old budget stalemate are ready for a final vote later this week.

The House Appropriations Committee on Monday approved the measures that passed the Senate on partisan lines last week amid a veto threat by Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf.

The proposals would send billions of dollars to schools and social services while Republicans who control the General Assembly negotiate with Wolf.

The House is expected to pass both bills by Friday.

The governor vetoed a Republican budget that passed in late June. Talks to resolve the stalemate have stalled.

Wolf supports higher taxes to boost spending on schools and social services. The Republican budget he vetoed didn’t raise taxes and added more modest amounts to education and social services.
