HARRISBURG — Government watchdogs say former state liquor officials who’ve been sanctioned for taking gifts from vendors are now working in the alcohol industry’s private sector.

Logs obtained by a Pittsburgh newspaper indicate ex-Liquor Control Board officials now working for vendors visited the state agency’s offices more than 120 times from January through mid-September.

In one case, Matt Schwenk was cited by the Ethics Commission for taking gifts of golf outings and trips from vendors while an LCB official. He’s visited LCB officials six times since taking a job as a spirits sales representative.

Former government employees are required to wait a year before conducting business with former colleagues. Critics say those rules don’t go far enough.
