PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh is trying to take advantage of the warmer weather by patching about 1,000 potholes.

Public Works crews are expected to lay down hot patches around the city between today and Wednesday. Hot patches should last much longer than cold patches, which are typically used in the winter.

Crews are set to work in 12-hour shifts beginning at 6 a.m.

Declining oil prices have resulted in less expensive road materials.

The city has nearly 900 miles of paved roads and has received about 1,000 service requests to fix potholes.

The city is focusing particularly on streets in Pittsburgh’s South Side and East End neighborhoods. Officials with the Public Works Department say there will be more trucks in certain areas with greater need.
