Bank robbery suspect shot by police officer

PITTSBURGH — Authorities in Pittsburgh say a bank robbery suspect has been shot after pointing a gun at a police officer working security there.

City police say the male suspect is in critical condition after being shot once in the torso at a First Niagara Bank. He has not been identified.

Police say the uniformed officer identified herself Friday morning after the suspect brandished a gun and ordered employees and a customer to the floor.

Police say the bank branch in the city’s Mount Washington neighborhood has been robbed twice recently. They don’t know if those crimes are related to the robbery attempt Friday.

The FBI has joined the investigation.
