Dog wardens will canvass Butler County the week of April 10 to check whether dog owners have current licenses and rabies vaccinations for their pets.

State law requires that all dogs 3 months or older be licensed by Jan. 1 of each year and they must be vaccinated against rabies.

The fee for a license is $6.50 for each spayed or neutered dog and $8.50 for other dogs. Older adults and people with disabilities may buy a license for $4.50 for spayed or neutered dogs and $6.50 for others.

Violators can be cited with a maximum fine of $300 per violation, plus court costs.

Dog owners may buy licenses online at www.doglicenses.us/PA/Butler, in person at county Treasurer Diane Marburger’s office weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. or by mailing the application and payment to: Butler County Treasurer Diane Marburger, 124 W. Diamond St., PO Box 1208, Butler, PA 16003.

Licenses also are available at the Cranberry Township, Evans City, Mars, North Trails (West Sunbury), Prospect and South Butler (Saxonburg) libraries, as well as the Seven Fields borough building, the Butler County Humane Society on Evans City Road, the Butler Agway on Evans City Road, Pets in the Park at Moraine Pointe Plaza and Hockenberger Motors in Zelienople.
