Saturday — Police were told of a lottery scam in which an 85-year-old Connoquenessing Township woman was targeted.The woman received a letter telling her she had won a $250,000 lottery jackpot. She later got a telephone call telling her to send $1,850 to Ottawa, Canada to claim the winnings.The woman became suspicious when she was contacted again, and notified police.

7:22 p.m. Friday — A Fayette County man was killed and a Mercer County woman seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Mercer Road near Line Road in Delaware Township, Mercer County.Police said William Brant Jr., 51, of Uniontown died when his car crossed the center line and collided head-on with a conversion van driven by Cheryl Ann Rosser, 44, of Fredonia.Rosser, who was not wearing a seat belt, was flown by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. Her condition was not known this morning.Mercer County Deputy Coroner Chris Loutzenhiser pronounced Brant dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt.
