Wednesday — Police are investigating the overnight burglary at the Marathon gas station/convenience store on South Main Street.An employee arrived to open up about 6:15 a.m. and found the glass on the front door smashed out. Officers searched and found the glass had been broken with a pair of rocks.No merchandise was taken, but the area behind the counter — including cigar boxes — was ransacked. The employee told police the cigar boxes previously had been used to place the overnight store receipts.But that practice apparently changed following the most recent burglary at the store. After closing Tuesday night, the money was placed in the store safe.Police also noted that a bank bag filled with checks was not touched in the burglary.The same Marathon store was broken into Dec. 16. In that break-in, a large rock was used to shatter the front window.About two weeks later, police arrested Travis Ryan Hilliard, 21, of Prospect, and charged him with the burglary. Hilliard allegedly stole several cartons of cigarettes and $1,800.

Tuesday — About $144 in party items were stolen in a burglary at a pizza shop in Bradys Bend Township, Armstrong County.The unknown burglar or burglars between 11:30 a.m. Monday and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday used a window to get inside River Road Pizza on Route 68. Stolen were 10-pound bags each of onion rings, provolone sticks, chicken planks, Philly cheese steaks and hamburgers, and several pounds of hot sausage.
