Nathalie (Neverla) Monk of Portersville will celebrate her 80th birthday with a family dinner.

She was born March 16, 1924, in Punxsutawney. She married Edwin Monk June 19, 1951. He died in 1976.

She is the mother of Mark Monk of Geneva, Ohio; Carl Monk of Ledyard, Conn.; Gary Monk of Portersville; Kirk Monk of Glen Burnie, Md.; and Rory Monk of Telford. She also has 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Monk is a 1940 graduate of Clarion High School and finished her teaching degree in 1948. She is a retired elementary school teacher,

Mrs. Monk is also a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, where she served from 1945 to 1946.

She taught in New York, Florida, Washington, New Jersey and Puerto Rico before returning to Western Pennsylvania in 1971 to teach at Franklin Elementary School. Mrs. Monk also taught at Portersville Elementary School from 1972 to 1992.

She enjoys reading, gardening and taking care of her two Boston terriers.
