Yearbook quotes spur apologyLEETSDALE — A school district is apologizing after quotes from Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin and an Islamic State terrorist leader were printed in the high school yearbook.Quaker Valley School District officials said “Though the content of the quotes was reviewed thoroughly, the attributions clearly were not.”The Hitler quote is “Words build bridges into unexplored regions” while Stalin’s statement is more menacing: “Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, so why would we let them have ideas?”Students can get a refund on the books or stickers to cover up the quotes.

Senator testifies for prosecutionPHILADELPHIA — U.S. Sen. Bob Casey has testified for prosecutors in the trial of a congressman accused of trying to get a friend an ambassadorship in exchange for a bribe.Casey said he received a letter from U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah asking that lobbyist Herbert Vederman be considered for an ambassadorship. Casey said he did not promote Vederman’s bid to the White House. He said the lobbyist later seemed frustrated when nothing came of the request.Federal prosecutors accuse Fattah of taking bribes from Vederman and misusing federal grants and nonprofit funds to resolve his financial problems.The Philadelphia Democrat is on trial along with Vederman and three others. They have denied wrongdoing.

Another motion filed to drop caseNORRISTOWN — Lawyers for Attorney General Kathleen Kane refiled a motion to throw out her criminal charges after an earlier motion was thrown out on a technicality.Kane’s lawyers made the filing Thursday in Montgomery County court.Montgomery County Judge Wendy Demchik-Alloy had given Kane’s lawyers 10 days to refile it after saying an April 26 filing didn’t adhere to rules of criminal procedure.
