Alvin Goodgasell of Chicora celebrates his 85th birthday today.

He was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Chicora. He married Mary Smith Murtland on April 24, 1954; she is deceased.

He has two children, Harry Murtland of Flinton and Debbie Angert of Chicora. He also has six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Goodgasell is retired from Pullman Standard, where he worked as a general foreman in the construction department.

He is a member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, the VFW and the Chicora Moose Lodge, all in Chicora.
