Smith 50th anniversary

Paul and Stella Smith of Butler will celebrate 50 years of marriage with a Mass at noon Sunday at St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church in Butler. The couple will also celebrate with a dinner for family and friends at the Butler Country Club.

The former Stella Zabo married Smith on June 25, 1955, at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Jerome.

They have six children, Paul Smith of Orem, Utah; Sister Donna Smith of Pittsburgh; Mary Beth Bonomo of Sewickley; Joan Myer of Grove City; Paula Hartley of Slidell, La.; and Donald Smith of Medina, Ohio.

They also have 15 grandchildren.

Smith is retired from Armco Steel. He was formerly self-employed as a Holstein dairy farmer. He is a member of the National and Pennsylvania Holstein Associations, the American Legion and the Moose Club. A veteran of the Marines, he served in World War II. Smith was the 1972 recipient of the Butler Eagle Bowl at the Butler Farm Show.

Mrs. Smith is a homemaker and a former teacher in Butler and Johnstown. She volunteers with March of Dimes, American Heart Association and American Cancer Society.

Both are lifetime members of St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, where they belong to the church choir and where Mrs. Smith is involved in ministry programs.
