Lowell and Janie Wetzel of Butler celebrated 50 years of marriage with a trip to Hawaii.

The former Janie Hockenberry married Wetzel on July 16, 1955, at Homer City United Presbyterian Church.

They have three children, Wanda Davison of Outer Banks, N.C.; Steven Wetzel of Freehold, N.J.; and Kendra Rommel of Raleigh, N.C.

They also have six grandchildren.

Wetzel retired from the Butler Area School District after 34 years as a teacher and assistant athletic director. He is a member of the Victory Lodge 694 F&AM and the Syria Shrine. He also serves as a Track and Field Official for PIAA and USA Track and Field.

Mrs. Wetzel is a homemaker.

The couple belongs to Covenant Presbyterian Church, where Wetzel has served as an elder and a deacon and Mrs. Wetzel has taught Sunday school.
