Tom and Shirley Dunbar of Butler celebrated 50 years of marriage recently with an open house for family and friends hosted by their children.

The former Shirley Walker married Dunbar on July 23, 1955, at Glade Run United Presbyterian Church.

They have three children, Brady Dunbar of Marienville; Susan Dunbar Bailey of Marshall, Va.; and David Dunbar of Slippery Rock. Another daughter, Pamela Dunbar, is deceased.

They also have two grandchildren.

Dunbar retired from Armco Steel after 34 years. He worked as a supervising engineer.

Mrs. Dunbar is a former biology teacher. She worked at Butler Senior High School.

The couple attends Christ Community United Methodist Church.
