Police charge man with felony strangulation

A Butler man was arrested early Saturday morning after he allegedly strangled his wife while she was driving them along Sunset Drive in Center Township.

State police filed charges Monday against Cory D. Kuhrt, 28, that include felony strangulation, misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment.

After his arraignment Saturday, Kuhrt was placed in Butler County Prison on $50,000 bond.

According to charging documents, police responded to a parking lot at 120 Sunset Drive, where they spoke with the wife.

“The victim indicated that while she was driving, Kuhrt placed his hands on her neck and throat while applying pressure,” said the investigating officer. “She could not breath and feared passing out while driving.”

According to police, the wife said she swerved her vehicle back and forth in an attempt to get help, which prompted another reaction from her husband.

“Kuhrt bit her leg, causing pain and a bruise,” police said.

Police said they found Kuhrt nearby and arrested him.

A preliminary hearing in the case has been scheduled for May 25 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
