Irene Godfrey of Slippery Rock celebrated her 85th birthday recently with a surprise birthday party at Slippery Rock Park Commission's Recreational Center, hosted by her children and grandchildren.

The former Irene Reedy was born Dec. 21, 1921, in Emlenton.

She has two children, Robert Godfrey Jr. of Hermitage and Nancy "Sis"Warcup of Slippery Rock. She also has two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Mrs. Godfrey is retired from Slippery Rock University.

She is a member of the Assembly of God, Grace Tabernacle in Slippery Rock and the Slippery Rock Senior Center.
