Black 60th anniversary
James and Marian Black of Valencia marked 60 years of marriage with a celebration in April at Mars Alliance Church.
The former Marian Purvis married Black on April 30, 1947.
They have two daughters, Carol Kier and Linda Maurhoff, both of Valencia. Another daughter, Rebecca Lee, is deceased.
They also have eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A veteran of the Air Force, Black served as a fighter pilot instructor during World War II. He served for 22 years in the Civil Air Patrol in Butler. He was the patrol's commander for 12 years.
Mrs. Black is a former employee of the Butler County Treasurer's Office. She now volunteers at her church and in her community. She is also the leader of the Good News Club.
The Blacks are active members of West Deer Bible Church. They enjoy singing.
