SRU soccer defeats top-seeded Rams
The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team eliminated the Atlantic region's top seed West Chester from the PSAC playoffs with a 2-1 victory on the road.
Cailin Conner and Shelby Ward scored goals for The Rock, which received three saves in net by Dana O'Neill.
Stephanie Buckenheimer added an assist on Ward's goal, which gave SRU a 2-0 lead.
SRU will advance to the PSAC semifinals Saturday where it will face No. 6 seed East Stroudsburg at 1:30 p.m. at California (Pa.) University. The winner of that contest will face the California-Edinboro winner in the championship game at noon Sunday at California.
Ryan Lutke scored with 39 seconds left in the second overtime to give SRU a 2-1 victory over host Gannon University in PSAC quarterfinal action.With the win, The Rock (10-3-6) will face West Chester in an 11 a.m. semifinal match at Mercyhurst.Stephen Donnelly's goal off an assist by Joshua Gray gave SRU a 1-0 lead late in regulation before Gannon's Ivan Tolic scored off a helper by Gavin Linsell helped send the game into overtime.SRU goalie Clayton Master made seven saves.
