Edward H. Deichman Jr.
In loving memory of Edward H. Deichman Jr., who would have celebrated his 59th birthday today, Oct. 27, 2011.
Ed went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 23, 2011, after a courageous battle with gastric cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Alice Zan; his sister, Karen Zan; and a brother-in-law, Mark Fuller.
He was the beloved husband of Judy for more than 23 years; the father of Christopher David, Stephanie Lynne, Grant Edward, Hannah Lillian and Rebecca Zan and Madelynn Lee; and the brother of Sharon Deichman Fuller and Kathryn Deichman Lundquist.
Ed was born in Lockport, N.Y., grew up in Butler, and attended Thiel College in Greenville, where he studied accounting. Ed graduated in 1975 and started his lifelong career with Media General Inc. that August.
Ed worked for Media General for more than 35 years, starting in Richmond, Va., in the internal audit department. He soon went to Tampa, Fla., to report the finances of WFLA-TV, Channel 8, and WFLA AM/FM. He oversaw the financial acquisition of 29 additional television stations as the Media General Broadcast Group grew over the years.
The corporate employees transferred to Richmond, Va., in 2001, and Ed and his family settled into the community of Riverton in Midlothian, Va. Ed was nearing completion of his second term as chairman of the Media Financial Management Association when he was awarded the organization's Career Achievement Award in May. He continued his career-long service with Media General until his death.
Ed is missed by family, friends and colleagues.
<B>KERR</B> — Family and friends of Hugh J. “James” Kerr, who died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>CHARLES B. JARVIE FUNERAL HOME</B>, 801 Pittsburgh St., Springdale. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Springdale United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar Township.
