Mary Gerwig

Mary Gerwig of Zelienople celebrated her 100th birthday Nov. 19 with a birthday greeting from President George W. Bush and a congressional proclamation by Congressman Jason Altmire. A party was also held with friends and family at the Creek Meadows Senior Guest Haus, where she lives.

Mrs. Gerwig was born Nov. 19, 1908. She married Charles Gerwig in 1935. He is deceased.

She has one son, John Gerwig of Harmony. Her son Ronald Gerwig was killed in action in 1967 in Vietnam.

She also has three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Gerwig is an active Gold Star mother and a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Zelienople.
