Gladys Smolen

Gladys Smolen of the Concordia Haven in Cabot celebrated her 80th birthday with a surprise open house given by her family May 17 at the Saxonburg Library hall.

The former Gladys Edwards was born May 26, 1929, in Cabot. She married Leo Smolen on Nov. 14, 1950, while he served in the U.S. Army. He is deceased.

She has one son, retired Maj. Gen. Robert Smolen of Springfield, Va. A son, James, and an infant daughter are deceased. She also has seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Mrs. Smolen is a homemaker and enjoyed entertaining friends and relatives in her home. She is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cabot.
