John Patrick Phillips
John Patrick Phillips, 57, of Bradenton, Fla., died Saturday.
Born in Butler, Sept. 30, 1947, he was the son of Helen Phillips and the late Harvey H. Phillips Jr.
He was a 1965 alumnus of Butler High School; and in 1971, he became the first student at Slippery Rock State College to graduate with a master of science degree in biology.
Mr. Phillips retired as an environmental engineer for Exxon Mobil Corp. after 25 years and moved to Bradenton from Nigeria one year ago.
He was a Presbyterian and a member of the River Club.
His two proudest accomplishments were completing the Houston Marathon at age 50 and reaching the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro with his loving son, Sean.
He is survived by his wife, Michele; a son, Sean, of Houston, Texas; his mother, Helen Phillips, of Oakland Township; a brother, David H. Phillips, of Henderson, Nev.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A brother, James Phillips of Green River, Wyo., preceded him in death.
