IN BRIEF
CRANBERRY TWP — The township emergency medical service will host a free CPR training event at the municipal center this Saturday.
Ted Fessides, deputy director of Cranberry EMS, said the session will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The course will follow guidelines from the American Heart Association and will use a “hands-only” approach to teaching CPR, he said.
Anyone who completes the training will receive a certificate of recognition. There is no appointment or registration needed.
Fessides urged people to take the training, saying it only will take about five minutes to learn “this important, live-saving skill.”
“The number one factor of whether people survive or demise is the presence of early-bystander CPR administration,” he said.
He added that EMS personnel trained 85 people last year in CPR, and he hopes to increase that number to 100 this year.
