Roy M. Kimmel

Roy M. Kimmel, 77, of Butler died Thursday at his residence.

He was born Aug. 20, 1932, in Somerset, a son of the late Merle and Florence Cooper Kimmel.

Roy was a 1950 graduate of Butler High School.

Mr. Kimmel worked as a locomotive repairman at Butler Armco for 38 years until his retirement in 1990. As a young man, he helped his father-in-law with the "Art White Shows" at carnivals and fairs throughout Western Pennsylvania.

He enjoyed RVing and camping at the Wolf's Den Campgrounds in Knox.

Roy and his wife spent 18 winters in Avon Park, Fla., at the Adelaide Shores R.V. Resort, where he enjoyed swimming, riding his bike, playing cards and games, and going out to eat. He was meticulous in his care for his garden, his lawn and his shrubbery. He also was an avid hunter.

Roy was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend to all. He loved family time and especially enjoyed attending his granddaughters' volleyball games. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

His wife, Jeannette A. White Kimmel, who he married March 10, 1953, survives. Also surviving are one son and his wife, Arthur L. and Camille Kimmel of Pensacola, Fla.; two daughters, Sissy Schnur and her husband, Douglas Schnur, of Butler and Karen J. Just of Virginia Beach, Va.; one sister, Mary Jane Bauman of Saxonburg; seven grandchildren, Mrs. Chris (Katie J.) Ellis, Jacob A. Kimmel, Kelsey L. Kimmel, Mrs. Trevor (Halee M.) McCance, Kala M. Schnur, Hannah I. Just and Sarah J. Just; and two great-grandchildren, Abby and Riley Ellis. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

An infant son, William D. Kimmel; a grandson, Zachary A. Kimmel; and his sister, Dorothy M. Kimmel, also preceded him in death.

<B>KIMMEL </B>— Friends of Roy M. Kimmel, who died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. in Butler. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Greenlawn Burial Estates.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Program of the Butler VNA, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
