Brooks a 1-man show for C-L vs. Falcons

FOXBURG - David Brooks was Mr. Everything for Clarion-Limestone Friday night.

Brooks accounted for 199 yards and scored three touchdowns in the Lions' 34-0 triumph over A-C Valley.

"(Brooks) is the kid who came in at quarterback for us last week against Moniteau," said Clarion-Limestone coach Todd Smith. "(Brooks) is a senior with great leadership and he is very athletic."

A-C Valley (0-2, 0-2), coming off of a 71-0 loss to Clarion last week, took the opening drive of the game to the C-L 12-yard line.

However, the Falcons were turned away when Rocco Crapis was stopped on fourth-and-1.

"The kids came out and they were ready to play, and after we didn't score, they kind of let down a little bit," said A-C Valley coach Randy Lemmon. "It took us a half of the game to get them going again."

C-L (2-0, 2-0) got on the scoreboard with 26 seconds left in the first quarter when Brooks broke a fourth-and-1 dive play 62 yards through the middle of A-C Valley defense.

On the ensuing kickoff, A-C Valley misplayed the ball, and C-L senior Neil Reynolds recovered it at the Falcons' 14-yard line.

Three plays later, Matt Hetrick sped around the left end for a 9-yard touchdown jaunt.

Brooks capped off the Lions' next touchdown drive by plunging over from the 1.

The Lions drove 74 yards in seven plays, with a key play on the drive being a 51-yard pass from Scott Davis to Kyle Jones that put the ball at the Falcons' 23-yard line.

Davis, a 5-foot-8, 153 pound junior, passed for 145 yards on 9-of-16 attempts.

With 10:47 left in the game, the Lions extended their lead to 28-0 when Brooks picked his way through the Falcon defense for a 13-yard touchdown run.

The touchdown was set up when Sheldon Champion recovered a fumble by Crapis at the Falcons' 13.

Crapis ran for 33 hard-earned yards on 18 carries.

However, the real star for A-C Valley was Hank Heeter.

Heeter, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound senior, caught six passes for 109 yards.

"There is no question about it, Hank Heeter is our go-to-guy," said Lemmon. "Rocco and Hank are our two weapons."

The Falcons gained 154 total yards but were held scoreless for the second straight week.

"These kids could have absolutely quit after what happened last week," said Lemmon. "I'm surprised they all showed up at practice this week.

"But they all showed up and the looked much better," Lemmon added.

The Falcons host Moniteau next week, while C-L will play host to Karns City.
