U.K. group won't invite pastor to speak at rally
LONDON — A far-right British group says it has decided not to invite a U.S. pastor who threatened to burn a Quran on the anniversary of 9-11 to address one of its rallies.
Florida Pastor Terry Jones had said he planned to address a protest by the English Defense League in England in February.
In a statement on its Facebook page, the group said it had never invited Jones to speak at the event, but he had approached them and they agreed in principle.
The group said today it disagreed with some of Jones’ views and it would be “inappropriate” to invite him given its “strong commitment” to its gay, Jewish and Pakistani Christian members.
The league opposes what it calls the spread of Islam, Sharia law and Islamic extremism in England.
