The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania is conducting a series of free online workshops for landowners in the Buffalo Creek watershed.

The first in the series is aimed at owners of forested land. The workshops in April include invasive insects on April 13, forest impacts on water resources and the state Private Landowner Assistance Program on April 20, and controlling invasive plants on April 27.

Each workshop runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Watershed residents will receive a free tree at each workshop they attend.

The workshops in May include planting to support birds on May 11, gardening for pollinators on May 18, and coexisting with white-tailed deer on May 25. Each workshop ruins from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Watershed residents will receive two native plants at each workshop they attend. People can register for the workshops at aswp.org or by calling 412-963-6100.

Tree and plant pickups will be at the new Buffalo Creek Nature Park, 154 Monroe Road, Sarver. Pick up time and details will be provided after registration.

The Nonprofit Development Corporation of Butler donated $5,000 to the Butler Police Department for the purchase of body cameras for officers.The agency presented the department with the check Wednesday. Chief Bob O'Neill said he is reaching out to community partners to help the department raise $28,000 to buy the cameras. The department is winding down a 30-day trial period with two cameras.
