McCarrier

Pamela McCarrier is a new staff writer for the Butler Eagle.

She is in the Focus Department and will cover community news and the Moniteau School Board.

McCarrier, 23, who is a 2006 Butler High School graduate, earned a bachelor's degree cum laude in journalism and mass communications in 2010 from Kent State University.

After graduating, she worked in Columbus, Ohio, as a promotions intern for CD101 now at 102.5 FM and as a marketing blogger for Made From Scratch catering.

She and her husband, Matthew McCarrier, live in Lyndora and are members of the Dutilh United Methodist Church in Cranberry Township.

She replaces Caitlin Bauer, who is enrolled in a master's program at Clarion University to become a librarian.

CRANBERRY TWP — Westinghouse Electric Co. has announced a management promotion and an honor that an engineer received.Bob Hook is the new controller for Westinghouse's Nuclear Fuel organization, effective Sept. 1. He will oversee all finance and reporting activities for the company's Nuclear Fuel product line.Hook most recently was the controller for the Field Services segment of the Nuclear Services product line.Hook, who joined Westinghouse in 2000, will replace Jim McCully, who will retire from the company in October after nearly 40 years.Hook will be in the company's Cranberry headquarters.Also the company announc-ed that Mario Carelli has been recognized by the American Nuclear Society (ANS) with its 2011 Special Award for Innovations in Small Modular Reactors (SMR).He was cited for his pursuit of design innovations to enhance the safety, performance and economics of SMRs and his international team-building efforts in this area.Carelli received the award at the recent ANS annual meeting in Hollywood, Fla.Carelli, who has more than 40 years with Westinghouse, is the chief scientist for research and technology.

NEW YORK — Chevron Corp. said Friday that profit jumped 43 percent in the second quarter as higher oil and gasoline prices made up for a decline in oil production.The San Ramon, Calif., oil giant reported earnings of $7.7 billion, or $3.85 per share, for the three months ended June 30. That compares with $5.4 billion, or $2.70 per share, in the year-ago period. Revenue increased 31 percent to $66.7 billion.Analysts had expected earnings of $3.51 per share, according to FactSet.Chevron's quarterly profit was the largest since it set a company record of $7.9 billion in the third quarter of 2008.
