Sen. Hutchinson running again

He's unopposed in GOP primary

OIL CITY — State Sen. Scott Hutchinson is running for re-election to his 21st District seat, saying he wants to continue to fight for fiscal responsibility, economic growth and reform.

“As state senator, my top priority has been to provide a strong voice for the hard-working families, small businesses and taxpayers of our region,” said Hutchinson.

He is running unopposed in the April 26 Republican primary, and he will have no Democratic opponent in November because no one filed for that party’s nomination.

The first-term senator, who previously was a House member from 1993 to 2013, said he will support fiscally responsible state budgets, creating good-paying jobs through promoting the state’s “core industries,” and strong government reforms to protect taxpayers.

“I am committed to the pro-growth, limited government principles that made our country great,” Hutchinson said. “We must keep our focus on priorities like education, economic development and public safety.”

He is on Senate committees for Environmental Resources and Energy, Finance, Local Government, Public Health and Welfare, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness.

Hutchinson said he will continue to fight “excessive and unnecessary regulations,” on industry, and believes the oil and gas industry represents the state’s best economic engine going forward.

“Pennsylvania has an incredible opportunity to become energy independent and an economic powerhouse,” Hutchinson said.

Hutchinson called himself a “proven reformer,” who has led efforts to reform government and the state’s welfare system and provides fiscal oversight as part of the Senate’s Public Health and Welfare Committee, where he has fought to expose and reduce welfare waste, fraud and abuse. Hutchinson said he continues to fight to reform the state’s “crippled” public pension systems.

The 21st District includes Butler, Cranberry Township, Adams Township, Butler Township and 11 other municipalities in Butler County, all of Clarion, Forest and Venango counties, and part of Warren County.
