WORTH TWP — State police have identified the driver of a sport utility vehicle seriously injured Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Route 108.

Zachary D. Ilgen, 21, of Slippery Rock was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. His condition was not known Friday.

Police said Ilgen was traveling west on Route 108 near Ashley Lane just after 5 a.m. when his SUV crossed into the opposing lane, colliding with an eastbound triaxle truck.

Slippery Rock volunteer firefighters had to rescue Ilgen, who was trapped in his vehicle. His injuries were described as “severe,” according to a police report. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Police did not identify the truck driver, who suffered apparent minor injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.

Slippery Rock Fire Chief Ken Taggart said the truck hit a tree after the collision, rupturing its fuel tank and causing about 125 gallons of diesel fuel to leak into a small runoff stream that leads to Slippery Rock Creek.

The Butler County's Hazardous Materials Team was called, Taggart said, and used absorbent pads to clean up the spill.

Police said their investigation continues.
