Jessica Spafford, Butler County's Junior Miss 2007, will compete for the title of Pennsylvania Junior Miss Sunday in Johnstown.A senior at Karns City High School, Spafford serves as president of the National Honor Society and is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.She is currently participating in Karns City's upcoming school musical and will attend a regional chorus competition in March.She has received a Presidential Award for Academic Excellence and participates in the marching band, as secretary and trumpet section leader; the varsity softball team, where she was named First Team All-Conference Outfielder; and the Drama Club, where she serves as vice president.Spafford has been accepted to Ohio Wesleyan College, where she plans to major in microbiology and voice performance.———
Members of the Women of St. Ferdinand donated toiletry and other small items to Project Hope.The project was begun in 2003 by Kim Sebring, who spoke at the women's club meeting Jan. 18. Sebring started the project after losing her son Tyler in 2003, six years after a heart transplant.The program provides tote bags to families of hospitalized children containing items they might not have thought of, including toiletries, snacks, playing cards, nail files and other items.Sebring said Project Hope delivers about 40 tote bags per month.———Winners at the <B>Butler Duplicate Bridge Club </B>game held Jan. 18 were <B>Polly Black </B>and <B>Alan Martin</B>. Tying for second place were <B>Lorraine Sherwin </B>and <B>Helen House </B>and <B>Lorraine Worsley </B>and <B>Ray Kramer</B>.
