Breaking boards for cancer
Mary Anne Walker, mother of Patrick Walker, prepares to perform a palm strike Nov. 4 under the direction of Master Robert Zang of Young Brothers Tae Kwon Do school who's holding the board on the left. It was part of a break-a-thon held in Cranberry Township. Students collected donations to benefit the UPMC Cancer Center in memory of fellow student Walker, 24, who died Sept. 19 of Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Combined, the Butler and Cranberry schools raised almost $15,000. Donations are still being accepted and a total from all 10 Young Brothers schools' efforts is yet to be announced.
