The Butler Eagle is planning its annual Stork Derby contest for the first baby born in 2007.

The first baby born at Butler Memorial Hospital or to a Butler Eagle subscriber will win prizes from participating businesses and will be featured in an upcoming edition.

Submissions will be accepted from parents, hospitals or attending physicians. All submissions will be verified.

EVANS CITY — The Evans City Volunteer Fire Department will host a New Year's Eve dance from 9 p.m. Dec. 31 to 1 a.m. Jan. 1 at the fire hall, 124 N. Jackson St.Admission is $15 per person. The Butler Arts Council is now selling admission buttons for the annual Ring in the Arts New Year's Eve celebration in downtown Butler.The event will run from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. and will include a variety of local and regional talent performances.Buttons are $10 each or $30 for a pack of four. Buttons can be purchased at Friedman's and BiLo grocery stores, the Embarq Store at the Clearview Mall, Miller's Shoes, the Butler County Symphony Office, Snack-n-Pack on East Jefferson Street and the Cranberry Township Municipal Center.A schedule will be distributed with the button purchase. HARMONY — The board of directors of Historic Harmony is now accepting written nominations for its 2007 Heritage Awards to be presented Feb. 10 at the annual Harmoniefest Dinner.Awards are presented in two categories. The first recognizes preservation, restoration or renovation of historic sites. The other is for a person who encourages appreciation of local history.Nominations are due Dec. 31 and should detail the reason for a project's historical value or why a person or organization is worthy of recognition for their efforts.All nominations must include the nominee's name, activity, address and phone number and the name, address and phone number of the submitter.
