Teens who fled academy caught Wednesday afternoon

BUFFALO TWP — Two juveniles who ran away from Summit Academy Wednesday morning have been caught by police, a spokesman for the facility said this afternoon.

It wasn’t immediately clear exactly when or from where the juveniles left the academy. Spokesman Dick Roberts said the pair left the facility in between one of the academy’s regular, 15-minute head counts and that their absence was “almost immediately” noted by staff members.

The juveniles were later spotted near Lernerville Speedway near Route 356, getting into a dark-colored van or SUV, Roberts said. The state police were notified and stopped the vehicle. The two juveniles were caught in the early afternoon and were still with state police about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Roberts said.

He said privacy laws barred the facility from identifying the juveniles or giving out any information about them, like their age or where they are from.

He said it was unlikely that the juveniles would return to Summit Academy.

“They’ll probably go back home and be back in the courts, and the courts will decide where we go from here,” Roberts said.

He said it wasn’t clear exactly when the juveniles walked off the facility or from which building they ran away.
