Adams Township seeks new bids for pavilion project

ADAMS TWP — Although hoping to attract a number of bidders for the new pavilion project, Adams Township opened one bid in a special meeting Thursday night.

When advertising for bids, the township split the picnic pavilion project into four parts: general construction, plumbing, electric and HVAC work.

Ron Olsen, township engineer, said the new pavilion is a “clone” of the Rotary Pavilion. It's going to be located by the Adams War Memorial in the community park.

“It's a nice shelter,” Olsen said.

The single bid — which was submitted by Grossman Construction Company in Slippery Rock — provided estimates for two parts of the project.

The general construction bid came in at $281,000, with a $500 deduction. The bid for the pavilion's plumbing construction was $44,655.

Grossman Construction didn't submit bids for the pavilion's electric and HVAC work.

Michael Gallagher, township solicitor, said the bid seemed high. He advised supervisors to reject the bid and ratify the decision at the next supervisors meeting.

In the meantime, Gallagher said to have Olsen and township manager Gary Peaco readvertise for bids.

“Direct them to do another bid,” Gallagher said. “That bid just seems way off base.”

Supervisors unanimously voted to reject the bid and readvertise for new ones. Supervisor chairman Russell Ford and Linda Lees were absent during the proceedings.

Supervisor Edward Vogel said he'd like to review the project specifications before the project is rebid.
