Butler PoliceMonday — Police charged Rebecca Ann Bonyak, 44, of Butler with falsely trying to incriminate a man she claimed had violated a protective order that she had against him.Bonyak told police that the man Friday had driven past her home on the 200 block of Broad Street several times, yelling threats and obscenities at her.But while investigating the claims, police began to have doubts. The man asserted that he was tattooing two clients during the time Bonyak claimed he had driven a white conversion van past her house.Additionally, police reviewed footage of public surveillance cameras on the 200 block of Broad Street but could did not see the van described by the defendant.Police Sunday confronted Bonyak with their evidence and she became “argumentative” and refused to talk further with investigators.She is charged with making a false report to law enforcement authorities, a misdemeanor.2:06 p.m. Saturday — Brittney R. Rudolph, 32, who is homeless, was arrested on a bench warrant after police found her at Butler Public Library on South McKean Street.The warrant was issued March 28 after Rudolph failed to appear for a hearing in a 2015 misdemeanor theft case. She was placed in Butler County Prison on the warrant.2:19 p.m. Friday — Donald E. Vargo, 41, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly tried to kick in a door at a home on the 300 block of East Brady Street. He also is accused of threatening the occupant with metal pipe.The tenant, Ronald Wilhelm Jr., told police he opened the door after hearing someone kicking and pounding it. He saw Vargo standing on the porch and asked him what he was doing.Vargo allegedly picked up a metal pipe on the porch and “held it as if he was going to hit (Wilhelm) with it,” a police affidavit said.After Wilhelm closed the door and called 911, Vargo fled. Police found him a short time later at a store.Police inspected Wilhelm’s home and found a hole in the front door where Vargo allegedly kicked it. They also found the pipe on the porch.Vargo was arraigned on a felony charge of trespass and misdemeanor charges of simple assault and disorderly conduct. He remains free on non-monetary bail.Friday — Robert H. Vanscoy, 42, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend during a dispute at their home on the 300 block of South Chestnut Street.Police began their investigation about 11:20 a.m. when they were called to the Butler Memorial Hospital emergency room, where they found the victim, Corabeth Claypool, who initially refused to identify her suspected abuser.However, she later told police that Vanscoy had shoved her into a wall and door and kicked her in her legs after they got into an argument over a telephone. She suffered bruising and swelling to her chest and back.Vanscoy was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and placed in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.2:03 p.m. March 23 — A car driven by Phillip J. Washington, 20, of Pittsburgh and a sport utility vehicle driven by Jill D. Kessler, 47, of Butler collided at East Jefferson and Franklin streets.

Butler Twp Police3:30 p.m. Sunday — A 17-year-old boy, who police did not identify, was caught shoplifting $68 in merchandise at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. Police cited the boy for retail theft.8:44 a.m. Sunday — Brenda Keith, 50, of Butler lost control of her car on ice-covered Route 8 near the Picklegate Bridge, sliding off the road and into an embankment.11:49 a.m. Saturday — A Pittsburgh man was caught shoplifting $970 worth of merchandise at the Walgreens store on New Castle Road. Paul Lavelle, 38, is charged with retail theft.

Franklin PoliceSaturday — Police picked up a teenager wanted on two arrest warrants, including a felony theft case in Grove City. Shaun M. Alter, 18, of New Castle was arraigned on charged in both case and placed in Mercer County Jail on $35,000 bail.Grove City police had been looking for Alter since Jan. 7 when they obtained a warrant for his arrest in connection with a Dec. 14 theft on Oakland Avenue. He is charged with two felony counts of theft and misdemeanor counts of corruption of minors and loitering and prowling at night.Shenango Township police in Mercer County since Dec. 23 also had been looking for the teen stemming from their own theft-related investigation in 2015. He is charged in that case with a felony count of receiving stolen property.Authorities noted that in addition to the two arrest warrants, Alter was wanted on a bench warrant for failing to appear at a court hearing in connection with a misdemeanor drug case last year in Pymatuning Township, Mercer Count.

Grove City Police11:03 p.m. Sunday — Shaun T. Haugh, 30, of Grove City was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on the 700 block of Enterprise Road.7:33 p.m. Saturday — Helen Bullman, 71, of Grove City was arrested for suspicion of DUI after she crashed into a large rock on Carrie Way.7:22 p.m. March 25 — A tractor-trailer driven by Timothy Drayton, 55, of Clymer, N.Y., struck and damaged a railroad crossing arm on South Center Street. Police said Dayton fled but was later identified and cited for hit-and-run.

State Police, Butler4:01 a.m. Sunday — Seth B. Dillon, 24, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 422 at the Jefferson Street exit in Summit Township.1:14 a.m. Sunday — Ryan A. Vandorick, 23, of Abington, Montgomery County, was arrested for suspicion of DUI at New Castle and Main streets in Slippery Rock.5:32 a.m. Friday — Nicole L. Allen, 25, of Zelienople lost control of her car and struck a ditch on Interstate 79 in Muddy Creek Township, Police cited her for driving at an unsafe speed, driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance and driving without valid inspection.

State Police, Franklin4:40 p.m. Saturday — A pickup truck driven by Jordan L. Foster, 23, of Harrisville struck a deer on Route 322 in Canal Township. No one was injured, but the truck had to be towed.
