Tornado CC wins 1st section title since 1993

C.J. Singleton raced to a first-place finish with a time of 16 minutes, 33 seconds to help the Butler boys cross country team to its first section title since 1993 in 26-30 and 16-47 wins over North Allegheny and Shaler.

Sage Vavro placed third with a time of 16:50.

The Butler girls split with North Allegheny and Shaler, falling to the Tigers, 18-42, and downing the Titans, 21-40.

Autumn Pettinato was the top Butler finisher with a time of 21:08.

The Butler girls finished 5-2 and tied for second place in the section.

McKenna Martin scored three goals as Karns City rolled to a 4-0 win over Wilmington.Alexis Moore added a goal and two assists and Emma Dailey and Ally Fennell also had assists for Karns City.Slippery Rock 6, Grove City 1 — Emily Raine scored a pair of goals in this win.Isabelle Willison, Amanda Lewis, Emma Hays and Olivia Elliott also scored for the Rockets.

Stephen Papik scored two goals and Dane Beller also scored as Mars shook off a slow start for a 3-1 win over Shaler.The Titans led 1-0 before the Planets (11-0-1) tied it up just before the half.Freeport 13, Derry 0 — Hunter Hardin scored six goals in the Yellowjackets' rout.Isaac Wetzel also had three goals, Cole Kovac two — his first two varsity goals — Luke Heider one and Dan Lynch added the final goal and three assists for Freeport (9-4-1, 7-3-1).

Addison Stewart scored three goals to lead Freeport to an 8-5 victory over Sewickley Academy in its varsity season opener.
