Slippery Rock University's baseball team will host West Liberty State (W.Va.) in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. today at Critchfield Park.
SRU originally was scheduled to play West Liberty (6-13) March 20, but the games were postponed due to inclement weather.
The Rock (22-2) swept a twinbill at West Liberty March 19 and is riding a seven-game winning streak. Its record through 24 games is the best in school history.
SRU is 4-0 in PSAC West play and is ranked sixth in Division II by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America and seventh nationally by Collegiate Baseball Magazine.
The 111th season of Grove City College football will kick off at Manchester (Ind.) Butler graduate Melanie Buczko, a sophomore on the Bucknell University women's track and field team, was named ECAC Division I Field Athlete of the Week.Buczko won the pole vault event at last weekend's Jim Thorpe Invitational in State College, clearing the bar at 12 feet, 11½ inches, nearly a foot higher than the second-place competitor.
The FCA Gems competitive cheerleading organization won three national titles at the recent American Cheer Power Nationals held in Columbus, Ohio.Pink Ice, for girls in second grade and under, won the Pee-Wee Novice division and the Best Choreography Award. Tanzanites. fifth through ninth grade, won the Junior Intermediate/Advanced Division and the High Point Trophy.Diamonds, fifth through 11th grade, won the Senior Elite Division and the Grand Championship Trophy.Turquoise, second through sixth grade, took second place in the Junior Prep Novice Division and Best Choreography Award.There were more than 350 squads involved in the competition.
