The Butler County Historical Society is seeking students age 13 and older that are interested in archaeology to join its Junior Archaeology Program, supervised by the society's staff archaeologist, Dr. Edmund Dlutowski.

The program provides both academic and hands-on experiences for participants.

The group meets at 1 p.m. Sundays in the basement meeting room of the Butler County Heritage Center, 119 W. New Castle St.

The program is free of charge and parental permission forms must be submitted to participate. Forms will be available at the weekly meetings or at the historical society office, on the seventh floor of the National City Bank Building, Main and Jefferson streets. The Butler Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., will host Nursery Rhyme Time for children ages 12 to 24 months from 10:30 to 10:50 a.m. Wednesdays during March.Registration is required. For information or to register, visit the library, call 724-287-1715 or e-mail lcampbell@bcfls.org.

FRANKLIN TWP — The Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church Youth Group will host a dinner buffet featuring international foods at noon Feb. 26 at the church, 727 Old Route 422.The menu will include lasagna, perogies, Chinese stir-fry, enchiladas, a taco bar, pigs in a blanket, kielbalsa and sauerkraut, side dishes, desserts and beverages.Cost is a donation and takeouts are available.Proceeds from the event will fund a youth trip to the Acquire the Fire event in Pittsburgh.

Applications are now being accepted for the Cameo Model Pageant to be held April 2 at the Butler Days Inn. Categories are available for males and females age 2 and older.The titles of Cameo Model USA, Talent Star USA, Picture-Perfect Model USA, Charisma USA and Fashionality USA will be awarded in each of six age categories.Two overall high-point titles will also be presented.For information or to request an application, call 724-287-0576 or 724-287-3576. NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Fresh Air Fund needs families to volunteer as hosts for the Friendly Town program, which gives children from low-income neighborhoods in New York City a two week stay in a smaller city or town.There are no financial requirements, and the host family can choose the age and gender of their visitor.
