After an exciting and impressive season of high school basketball, the Butler Eagle has selected its 2008-09 honor rolls and its players of the year and coaches of the year.
The girls honor roll appears in Wednesday's Eagle and the boys list will be published Thursday.
MILAN — Organizers for the Giro d'Italia are still holding out slim hopes that Lance Armstrong will enter the race after the seven-time Tour de France winner broke his collarbone."We're used to watching Armstrong pull off miracles, so we're still hoping he can do one more," Giro director Angelo Zomegnan told The Associated Press today.Armstrong was flying to the United States for surgery after crashing Monday in Spain during the Vuelta of Castilla and Leon race."I think for the Giro it's a very big problem," Armstrong said as he left Valladolid University Hospital on Monday, adding that he would have surgery in a couple of days.This year's race is scheduled for May 9 to 31.It is also unclear if Armstrong will be able to ride in the Tour de France, which is held July 4 to 26.
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — T.O. was a no-show for the start of the Bills voluntary offseason conditioning program Monday.Two weeks ago, coach Dick Jauron noted Terrell Owens' previous history of not taking part in voluntary sessions with his past teams, but hoped the Bills would be an exception.Under NFL rules governing offseason workouts, players are required to attend teams' mandatory minicamps, which the Bills have scheduled for June.Owens was unavailable for comment. His publicist, Keith Estabrook, said he was not aware of Owens' schedule regarding the Bills and referred questions to the team.
MONTREAL — The Montreal Canadiens could be for sale as part of a plan by owner George Gillett to sort out his varied holdings.Montreal La Presse reported Monday that BMO Capital Markets will study all financial avenues, including selling the club, financial restructuring or bringing in new investors.Gillett owns 80.1 percent of the team and the Bell Centre.He also owns 50 percent of English soccer giant Liverpool, and owns the Gillett Evernham NASCAR team, event promoter Gillett Entertainment Group, ski resorts, car dealerships and agricultural companies.
