For the second time, Serena Williams was voted The Associated Press Female Athlete of Year Tuesday.

NEW YORK — After re-established herself as the top player in women's tennis in 2009, Serena Williams was a landslide choice as Female Athlete of the Year by members of The Associated Press. Williams received 66 of 158 votes cast by editors at U.S. newspapers that are members of the AP. No other candidate got more than 18 votes.

Zenyatta, the 5-year-old mare who capped her 14-0 career by becoming the first female horse to win the Breeders' Cup Classic, finished second for the AP honor — with 48 fewer votes than Williams. Kim Clijsters, who came out of retirement only weeks before winning the U.S. Open, was third with 16 votes.

PITTSBURGH — Wide receiver Joey Galloway was added to the Steelers' roster Tuesday as the replacement for Limas Sweed.Sweed was placed on injured reserve Monday with a nonfootball related illness. Coach Mike Tomlin wouldn't reveal any details of Sweed's problem Tuesday.Galloway was cut by New England earlier this season.The Steelers also signed long snapper Jared Retkofsky to replace Greg Warren, who injured a right knee ligament on the final play of Pittsburgh's win over Green Bay. Retkofsky was the Steelers' long snapper for the final two months and the playoffs last season after Warren tore a knee ligament.Retkofsky had been playing for the New York Sentinels of the United Football League.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University men's soccer standout Jeremy Deighton was tapped for the first team of the Men's College Scholar All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and adidas.Deighton was the only player from the PSAC chosen for this honor and is one of only three Division II players named to the first team.He led the Atlantic Region with 21 goals this season and carries a grade-point average above 3.30.

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Seneca Valley graduate Don Barclay, a starting offensive lineman for the West Virginia University football team, was one of nine Mountaineers to earn the Gridiron Gladiator Award, as announced by coach Bill Stewart Tuesday.

NEW YORK — Pitcher Javy Vazquez was traded back to the Yankees by the Atlanta Braves Tuesday for outfielder Melky Cabrera in a move that pushed New York's payroll for next season over $200 million.New York also got left-hander Boone Logan as part of the deal, and the Braves obtained a pair of pitching prospects, left-hander Mike Dunn and right-hander Arodys Vizcaino, along with about $500,000.The trade leaves New York with an opening in left field.

NEW YORK — Nebraska's Ndamukong Suh became the first defensive player to be voted The Associated Press College Football Player of the Year.Suh finished the season with one of the great performances of the year, getting 4½ sacks as the Cornhuskers nearly upset No. 2 Texas in the Big 12 title game.He received 26 of a possible 59 votes from AP college football poll voters to edge Stanford running back Toby Gerhart, who received 20 votes. Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram finished tied for third with Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, each getting six votes.

LAS VEGAS — The proposed megafight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. was thrown into jeopardy Tuesday with a demand by Mayweather's camp that both fighters be subjected to Olympic-type drug testing in the weeks leading up to the bout.Mayweather's manager said the fight would not go on if Pacquiao didn't agree to blood testing under standards followed by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.
