Lewis A. Pizer, ex-police chief

Lewis A. Pizer, 65, of Zelienople died Saturday at his home.

Born May 3, 1939, in Grove City, he was the son of the late Milton Pizer and Helen Darcangelo Pizer-Ockovicin; and stepson of the late Joseph Ockovicin.

He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and served from 1957 to 1965.

Mr. Pizer began his career as a police officer with the Zelienople Police Department in May 1966, served as a lieutenant from 1971 to 1976, and was chief of police from 1976 until his retirement in 1993.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Reformed Church of Zelienople and a former member of the Zelienople Rotary, the Salvation Army, the United Way of Butler County and the Zelienople American Legion Post 474. He was also a former member of the Pennsylvania Chief of Police Association.

He was an avid outdoor sportsman and a Steelers fan and enjoyed being with his children, grandchildren and family.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia J. Makosey Pizer, whom he married Sept. 19, 1959; two sons, David Lewis Pizer and his wife, Alicia, of Hopewell and Steven Wayne Pizer and his wife, Janine, of Harmony; a daughter, Terri Lynne Keasey and her husband, James, of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister, Marie Jenkins of Florida; and three grandchildren, Tricia, Benjamin and Katie Keasey.

A brother, Anthony M. Pizer, and a granddaughter, Kathryn Lee Pizer, preceded him in death.

PIZER — Friends of Lewis A. Pizer, who died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s Reformed Church, 320 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, with the Rev. James Bertoti, church pastor, and the Rev. Cherrie Andres officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Peter’s Reformed Church Cemetery, Zelienople.Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.Online condolences and information are available at boylanfuneralhome.com.
