New comedy show to benefit Slippery Rock library
A first-time event will have the Slippery Rock Community Library laughing all the way to the bank.
Laughs for the Library will be held at 7:30 p.m May 18 at North Country Taproom, 111 Arrowhead Drive, Slippery Rock.
The show will feature two comedians from SlapSticks Productions in Pittsburgh, David Kaye and Suzanne Lawrence.
Tickets are $30 and cover admission. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, said Melissa Schulz, interim library director.
Schulz said all proceeds from the event will benefit the educational and recreational programs offered by the library.
She hopes the show will be a successful fundraiser for the library, which does not receive any state or federal funding.
“It was suggested by a board member whose son is on a lacrosse team that did one that was very well attended and well received,” Schulz said, “so we thought we’d give it a try.”
Basket raffles and a 50/50 raffle will be offered at the show.
While the humor will be family friendly, Schulz said the show is open to those age 21 and older because alcohol will be served.
Schulz said 120 tickets will be sold. They are available at the library at 465 N. Main St., Slippery Rock, or via a QR code on the library’s Facebook page.
Schulz said the library’s circulation last year was more than 50,000 items, and about 14,000 patrons were served.
She hopes those who patronize the library will attend the show.
“It should be fun night and a great way to support the library and community,” Schulz said.
